Omaha Poker Rules
Omaha poker has the same rules as Texas Hold’em with two exceptions:
- Players receive four pocket cards instead of two.
- Players must use two pocket cards and three community board cards to obtain the best hand.
This is the same principle as Texas Hold’em but two different rules require a completely different strategy to play Omaha.
Omaha poker is partly similar to Hold’em because it is a ‘community’ game. Players must create the best five card combination out of nine. The nine cards are made of four pocket cards and of five community cards or on board cards. This gives stronger combination hands. The player’s hand must be made of two pocket cards and of three board cards
Pieces of advice
However, be careful because it is obvious that this difference between Hold’em and Omaha has consequences on the game as it is easier to get good hands.
Indeed, each player has nine cards to realise his hand (versus seven in Texas Hold’em), thus a small efficient hand in Texas Hold’em may be useless in Omaha. A short period to adapt to those rules is necessary when you change your poker version .
